Job Description

Mortgage Specialist Location Rochester, NY (Beechwood area) :

TITLE: Mortgage Specialist

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Family Services Director

GENERAL:

The mortgage specialist, in partnership with the Family Services Director, is responsible for providing comprehensive financial coaching to low-income residents of Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties seeking homeownership. The mortgage specialist will work to ensure the success of our program participants while focusing on what is in the best interest of the organization with respect to its goals, mission, and values. The ideal candidate is a high performing and motivated individual who has a passion for mentorship and education, is comfortable interacting with the broad spectrum of our community and is highly organized with a high degree of attention to detail and recordkeeping. The mortgage specialist must be a dynamic, creative thinker, with knowledge of financial management, and have experience in engaging, empowering, and educating diverse groups of individuals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • In partnership with the Family Services Director, is responsible for the oversight of the Homeward Bound program; regularly meeting with clients with respect to homeownership readiness, budgeting, debt reduction, credit re-building and general financial education.
  • Performs all QLO (Qualified Loan Originator) duties, including gathering and evaluating applicant background financial information and facilitating Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH) real estate transactions in partnership with homebuyers and partner lending institutions.
  • Assist with facilitating and executing financial literacy workshops with a strong focus on budgeting, understanding the impacts of credit, and saving habits.
  • Maintains relationships with lenders, realtors, HUD counselors, and other network professionals while developing new referral sources.
  • Manage mortgage portfolio including all loss mitigation, foreclosure, and/or collection efforts.
  • Collaborates with the Grants Department to guarantee pre and post purchase client requirements are met.
  • Provide a consistent, high level of service and protection to clients' sensitive and personal information while supporting affiliate compliance within the complicated landscape of mortgage lending, and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Proactively manages workload, calendar, and client appointments to help meet the goals of the organization and serve clients effectively.
  • Maintains performance and quality standards based on established department metrics including turn-around times.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support and participate in special event days
  • Help market and participate in annual fundraising events
  • Serve on several internal and community-based committees that relate to the performance of this position
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and work with people from a wide variety of social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Applications. Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, accuracy, high attention to detail, and thoroughness.
  • Ability to operate efficiently and quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and economic self-sufficiency barriers, and relevant community resources.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, finance, business, or related field AND at least two (2) years' experience in banking/ lending, human services, or related field. Experience working with a low-income population preferred. OR four (4) years' experience as described above.
  • Ability to obtain a Qualified Loan Originator certification and willingness to renew annually required.
  • Program management experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish highly preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
