Job Description

This position is for a Full stack end to end web application developer who can develop both back-end infrastructure, Web UI, supporting API endpoints for the front-end, designing and maintaining a highly available and efficient media and data repository system. Optimizing our applications for scale and speed in imaginative and innovative ways will also be a significant function of this position. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build, scale and maintain our services and web based applications
  • T hink cross-device and cross-platform, mobile, tablet and desktop while developing front-ends.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver web based applications with both client side and server side functionality
  • Work with internal and external customers to define new features that will drive our business
  • Contribute to our team’s growing set of development platforms, tools, and processes
  • Contribute to user and support documentation when relevant
  • Research open-source technical possibilities and options
  • Participate in support/troubleshooting discussions, calls and provide technical expertise to support person and customers
  • Profile and optimize new and legacy code.

  • Build software for internal business operations
  • Integrate and build for external and internal API's.

  • Mentor junior intern programmers on programming projects.

      

    Essential Qualifications

     

  • 3+ years experience and proficiency with LAMP stack, solving challenging problems and implementing new features from scratch.  

  • 3+ years using HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Bootstrap components and implementing responsive design for the web

  • 2+ years of data migration, transformation and scripting experience in the Linux environment

  • Be comfortable working outside the context of a framework.

  • 1+ years experience with writing search queries and managing data fields using Apache Solr

  • 1+ years of Unit and Acceptance testing experience

  • Familiar with implementing application level security and implementing best practices for the web and SQL

  • Experience optimizing SQL and profiling legacy code

  • Experience using source control (Git) and code-deployment workflows

  • Experience building REST services as well as writing clients for integrating with public and private APIs

  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including explaining technical issues to non-technical users

  • Appreciate and respect diversity of people, ideas, and thought to create a cross-culturally competent community

  • Excellent organization skills and high attention to detail

  • Ability to be self-directed, take initiative and to work as part of a team; Ability to set priorities in alignment with organization and product needs

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree OR an Associate's degree with Major in computer science, information technology or related field.

  • Additional two years experience in LAMP stack and Javascript,

  • Experience building mobile applications

  • Prior experience working in AWS environment (EC2, S3 and Glacier for storage)

  • Experience working on Javascript libraries, HTML5 media player, video tags, using FFMPEG and streaming servers

  • Experience working on digital asset management systems or digital repositories (Fedora commons) and media (video streaming formats, audio)

  • Experience working with building redundant and data caching systems using Redis

  • Experience with log data aggregation and analysis techniques.
