Meet Water Works Engineers:

Water Works Engineers (WWE) is a leading civil and environmental engineering firm specializing in innovative and sustainable solutions for water infrastructure projects across the United States. Since 2005, we have excelled in planning, designing, and implementing projects involving the treatment, storage, and conveyance of drinking water, recycled water, and wastewater. With offices in Scottsdale, AZ; Redding, Roseville, San Mateo, San Diego, and Los Angeles, CA; Star, ID; Albuquerque, NM; and Salt Lake City, UT, we bring an understanding and sensitivity to Western water and wastewater issues. Our expertise includes water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, hydraulic modeling, and environmental compliance. Committed to innovation, integrity, and teamwork, we enhance the sustainability and resilience of the communities we serve.

Why this role matters:

As a Civil/Environmental Engineer (E3) at Water Works Engineers, you will be pivotal in solving California's water challenges, from drought resilience and conservation to sustainable treatment solutions. Leading complex projects, you'll ensure communities have access to safe, reliable water while your expertise in process engineering and compliance drives success in advanced treatment and recycled water systems. This role supports our mission of sustainable engineering, shaping resilient, adaptable water infrastructure, and mentoring the next generation to protect California's water resources for the future.

Your daily impact:

  • Lead the planning, process design, and execution of complex civil and environmental engineering projects, emphasizing advanced water and wastewater treatment, including process optimization for conveyance and distribution systems.
  • Oversee the development of detailed calculations, reports, plans, and specifications for treatment processes, process equipment selection (e.g., pumps, filtration systems), chemical feed systems, and hydraulic modeling.
  • Manage project budgets, develop cost estimates, and ensure financial feasibility, especially for water conservation and drought resilience projects.
  • Ensure projects incorporate process engineering best practices, emphasizing efficiency, sustainability, and reliability in treatment operations.
  • Review and approve construction submittals, ensuring compliance with California-specific codes and industry standards.
  • Conduct and supervise field inspections to monitor progress, ensure compliance, and resolve on-site issues related to process equipment installation and system commissioning.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and project teams to achieve project objectives, integrating low-impact development (LID) and stormwater management approaches.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff, providing guidance and fostering professional growth.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for new projects and office expansions, offering insights into climate-resilient infrastructure and long-term sustainability initiatives aligned with California's needs.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited engineering program, with coursework or experience in process engineering principles applicable to water and wastewater systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California is required.
  • 7-10 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering, focusing on complex site development, water recycling, water conservation, and advanced water infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in CADD software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project), and hydraulic modeling programs; experience with HEC-RAS, SWMM, and other advanced water treatment tools is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proven track record of managing complex projects and mentoring junior staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with experience addressing California's specific water challenges, including drought resilience, water reuse, and environmental justice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven ability to perform both office and field work as required, with familiarity with California's diverse terrains and environmental conditions.
